2008 NFL Week 1 REVIEW!
09/10/2008
Week
one: First Impressions
- Strike
one
for parity in the NFL - Tom Brady
out for the year!
- Jake
Delhomme to Daunte Rosario with no time left!
-
Cowboys,
Eagles, Steelers; rolling, rolling rolling!
-
K.O.
in Indy,
Da Bears with Kyle Orton at QB, opens up Lucas Oil
Stadium, Windy City
style!
-
SHOUT
OUT
to ECU, BCS busters! Not only did they beat #17
Virginia Tech, they pummeled #8 West Virginia, in Greenville baby!
(students,
and police both got a little too excited?)
AFC East
Patriots-
Brady out all year. Did not matter vs. hapless Chiefs, but it
will matter from here on! Starting with a visit to NY to do battle with
(1-0) NY Bretts!
Bills-
Beat the Seaha-weaks in Buffalo, now travel to Jacksonville,
where the Jags lost to Tennessee, and got some new holes in the O Line.
Defensive game anyone.
Jets-
The old man still has a cannon! The new and improved defense
secured the victory with two redzone stops in the 4th quarter. The Matt
Cassel led new England Patriots (sure could get used to the sound of
that) come to town, for a division battle in week 2.
Dolphins- Improved
on both sides of the ball, but not enough for the
jets. Maybe an easier test as Miami travels to the desert of Arizona
(or maybe not, Cards impressive in win over San Fran in week 1.
AFC
North
Steelers-
Ruthlessly beat down the Texans in week 1. Division rival
Cleveland comes to town in week 2 fresh off a bad loss to Cowboys.
Browns-
Seeing stars? Seeing stars? The boys are back in Dallas and
Clevelanders are still seeing stars. Got roughed up in week 1,
& it ain't gonna get any easier with a trip to Pittsburgh to
face Supersteelers. Explosive offense turned the corner in week 2 last
year, maybe Brownies would like an extra week of rest to start the
season? (Hope so!)
Ravens-
Congrats Rook! What ya know, its Joe Flacco with a big
divisional win in his first start since Delaware. Houston limps into
town off their loss to Pittsburgh.
Bengals-
Lost to the Ravens in week 1. Take on Titans without Vince in
week 2.
AFC South
Colts-
Pre-season form Peyton not his normal Hall of Fame performance.
The team hopes to get back on track vs. Minnesota and their tough run D
in week 2.
Jaguars-
Thought they had questions before, now lost left guard Vince
Manuwai for the year, and right guard Maurice Williams the next 2
months! Next up, Buffalo, looks like a defensive game.
Titans-
Escaped week one with a W - Next up the hot/cold Bengals fresh
off a loss.
Texans-
Got stomped into the ground by Pittsburgh in week 1. It should
be a little bit easier with Joe Flacco and the Ravens coming to town
after beating the Bengals.
AFC West
Chargers-
Got upset at home vs. upstart Panthers, and found out the
year is over for Shaun Merriman. Next up will be division rival Denver,
fresh off their shellacking of Oakland in the opener.
Broncos-
Opened
in mid season form and humbled division opponent Raiders behind QB jay
Cutler, and rookie wide receiver Donald Royal. Now they have a short
week to prepare for division favorite San Diego.
Chiefs-
Lost to Brady-less Pats, lost QB Brodie Croyle for (2-4) weeks
and outlook is the exact same. But it should be interesting this week
with struggling Oakland in town.
Raiders-
They got a long way to go. At least they get to go KC this
weekend.
NFC East
Cowboys-
Crushed Cleveland in week one, and now they get a Monday night
matchup vs. equally dominant division rival Eagles in Big D. This game
should be good, but it will have consequences and repercussions down
the road.
Eagles-
Rolled over the inept looking Rams. Now the season can really
start with a trip to Dallas on Monday night. R-u-ready for some
football? (can you say playoff atmosphere in week 2!?)
Giants-
Looked repeatable in week one win over the Skins, capable QB,
fierce defense, amazing plastic man at wide receiver. Next up are the
Rams who got rammed by the Eagles in week one.
Skins-
Looked flat on offense (might have just been the Giants D!)
Defensively there where many holes (but that might have been Brandon
Jacobs footprints!) Skins offense better pick it up as the Saints come
marching in!
NFC
North
Vikings-
After losing to Green Bay in week1, all the same questions
remain, passing offense & passing defense. Those questions must
be answered, or they will define the team. Colts are in town off a
loss... uhohhh!
Packers-
Beat Minnesota in week 1, and looked tough doing it. Looking
to keep the ball rolling in Detroit.
Lions-
Confidence is shook after loss to Atlanta?!? At least they get
to go home… too bad Green Bay. It looked like they hadn’t missed a beat
in week 1.
Bears-
Their 'Forte' is an instant offense. The defense looked like Da
Bears of old, handling the colts in week 1, and Kyle Orton did not give
the game away, which is a change of pace for Chicago. Hope Rex likes
his seat.
NFC South
Panthers-
That was one heck of a first step! A last second victory in
San Diego and Jake is the early favorite for comeback player of the
year. It is very early, but Carolina looked great passing, and running
the ball (without Steve smith!). The defense held the cap on the high
powered Chargers all game. Step two is taking on Da Bears after they
handled the Colts in Indy. (Is Otah otay?)
Falcons-
Michael "He's A Burner" Turner, 22 caries-220 yards (Falcons
single game record) & 2 TDs! What a debut! Speaking of debuts,
Matt Ryan threw his first NFL pass for a long TD, and then played like
a vet, and Coach Smith had a very good debut as well. Competition gets
tougher with division foe Tampa bay, in Tampa.
Saints-
Beat the Bucs (behind Reggie Bush & Drew Brees) in
Nawlins'. Now they’re headed to Washington where the Skins better have
used the extra time off to wake up their offense.
Buccaneers-
Up and down game in week 1 in New Orleans, ended in a loss,
and QB Jeff Garcia may miss some time, but they have 3 or 4 more QBs to
pick from. They will need some type of consistency with Atlanta coming
to Florida.
NFC West
Seaha-weaks-
Too bad they can’t play all of their games at home. After
the loss in buffalo, they return to rainy Seattle where they are a
decidedly different team, and take on San Fran.
Cardinals-
Not only leave San Fran with a win, they get the Dolphins in
week 2. They had better take advantage now; the schedule gets a lot
tougher.
49ers-
Lost at home to Cards, now must head north to face division
favorite Seaha-weaks
Rams-
Ouch, after ugly loss in Philly, time to head to New York to play
the defending Super Bowl champs.
Good
Luck!
