2008 NFL Week 6 REVIEW!
10/17/2008
Talk about great football; upsets, comebacks, and some serious hits!
- Rookie Matt Ryan and the surprising (4-2) Falcons take another victim: Da' Bears.
- New Rams head coach Jim Haslett is 1-0. (at least he has a winning record, for a week!)
- Big
trouble in big D. Romo is hurt, and Pac man is... well... gonna be out
for a while. The Boys did get the other Roy Williams, and he might fix
a lot.
- Can anybody guess who the last two teams without a win are.................Bungles and Lions!
AFC East
Patriots- (3-2) The team took a big
pounding from the up and down Chargers in sunny California. The big
offensive names in New England have all been pretty quiet without their
starting quarterback, and someone will have to step up this week as
they will be hosting the hot/cold Broncos on Monday night. With both
teams coming off a loss, this game should have plenty of fireworks.
NY Jets- (3-2) Favre has
helped add a lot of offense in New York, and a winning record too (this
team went 4-12 last year). Thomas Jones finally explodes with his first
3 touchdowns of the year. Their defensive weaknesses did not show up
against the Bungles, and the fans hope they wont show this week either
as they travel to (1-4) Oakland. Brett and the Jets had better take
advantage of the softest part of their schedule, which would be now.
Bills- (4-1) Buffalo should be rested
after the bye week, and quarterback Trent Edwards should be ready,
after he got a concussion from a nasty shot from Arizona safety Adrian
Wilson. The next challenge is huge: the Chargers are coming to town,
and after they whupped the Pats, would you want to play em?
Dolphins- (2-3) Took the Texans to the
wire, but came up just short, as their special teams were anything but
special. The defense gave up a QB sneak for the game winning touchdown
on fourth down. Their schedule doesn't let up all year, but they have
proven all ready that they will show up (and fight with all they have
and more) for every game.
AFC North
Steelers- (4-1) It looks like the road
to the Championship runs through Pittsburgh. The Steelers rested atop
the division over their bye week, and now the game everyone is looking
past; the Bungles, without starting quarterback Carson Palmer.
Browns- (2-3) That was one surprising
butt-whooping the previously unbeaten (defending Super bowl champion)
Giants received at the Dawg Pound in Cleveland on Monday night. Now
that was what everyone was expecting from the Brownies when they picked
them to win their division (before the season). The offense did not
punt all game versus one of the NFL's best defenses, and the Browns
defense not only showed up, they showed some serious backbone, stifling
Eli and the G-men all night. Looks like Mr. Quinn will be seated for a
while.
Ravens- (2-3) On the receiving end of
their third straight loss, this one in Indianapolis (31-3). Ouch,
anemic offense looks to start stepping in the right direction with a
trip to Miami. Should be a good game with two pretty equal teams.
Bungles- (0-6) Palmer is hurt, and they
could not win before he got hurt. This week the (4-1) Steelers come to
town, better luck next year.
AFC South
Colts- (3-2) The offense seems to be
back to normal after scoring 31 points in each of the last two games
(both victories). This week Peyton takes the troops to Lambeau Field,
for a trip to Mr. Rodgers neighborhood (3-3) Packers seemingly welcome
the challengers, but can they challenge them?
Jaguars- (3-3) After a big win over the Broncos, Jacksonville will enjoy the bye week before gearing up for the Browns.
Titans- (5-0) Undefeated and coming of
a bye week, what could be better? Oh yeah, a trip to Kansas City is
always nice, especially when Larry Johnson will be inactive because he
skipped a meeting over their bye week. ??Vince Young??
Texans- (1-4) Got the first win of the
season in an up and down battle with the Dolphins, which went to the
wire. Matt Shaub had a great game, including 379 yards passing, and the
game winning touchdown on a sneak on fourth and goal.
AFC West
Chargers- (3-3) They looked like the
team we all expected in a big win over New England. Now an even tougher
task, with a trip to (4-1) Buffalo. The Bills are coming off a bye, and
floating on cloud nine. This could be a great game as the Chargers look
to get back on top by knocking Buffalo down a notch.
Broncos- (4-2) Lost a
battle in Jacksonville 24-17, and now get a test in primetime, with a
Monday night game in Foxborough, Mass. Denver looks to rebound before
entering their bye week.
Oakland- (1-4) The Tom Cable show did
not come in to good, as the Raiders got crushed in Nawlins' 34-3. The
defenseless Davis's look to "just win baby" as the New York Bretts head
into town, good luck with that!
Chiefs- (1-4) Herm Edwards seems like a
real good guy, but he had better hope the owner is patient, or ?? (5-0)
Tennessee comes to town with arguably the best defense in the NFL (at
least the hardest hitting). Better luck next year.
NFC East
Cowboys- (4-2) Dallas is in a tough
spot, but it is early in the season, and Romo's injury is looking to be
less limiting than first expected. The Roy Williams acquisition was
critical for both sides. The ex-Lion wide receiver is an amazing
athlete with good size, and speed, and great hands. The Cowboys have
threats across the board on offense, and pairing Terrell Owens and Roy
Williams should give them the best WR tandem in football. This week the
Boys travel to St. Louis, and they will be lead by seasoned veteran
Brad Johnson.
Eagles- (3-3) A 40-26 comeback win,
talk about a comeback. Philly is happy to get their early season bye
this week, as they gear up to play Atlanta Oct. 26.
Redskins- (4-2) Lost at home to the
Rams, that is all you have to say. They did sign Shaun Alexander, to
pair with Clinton Portis. They should be motivated to play the suddenly
offensive Browns.
Giants- (4-1) Much less imposing after
getting beat down in Cleveland on Monday night. Something tells me that
coach will get the Giants pumped up and ready to take on the 49ers in
New York. Might not be a good game for the west coasters.
NFC North
Vikings- (3-3) Talk about a close game,
the 12-10 win at home over the paper Lions didn't do much for the ego,
but it sure did help the win column. The road gets rough with a trip to
division foe Chicago (3-3). This should be a defensive game on both
sides.
Packers- (3-3) Big win at offensively
challenged Seattle put the Pack back on track, and just in time for a
visit from the recharged Colts. Time to get compared to another future
Hall of Famer, Mr. Rodgers.
Bears- (3-3) Humbling loss in Atlanta
from a field goal as time expired, showed how da' Bears are the NFL's
real life Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Should be able to get back to brass
tacks against division rival Minnesota at Soldier Field.
Lions- (0-5) Close, but no cigar. At least they get to go to Houston, right?
NFC South
Panthers- (4-2) Demoralized in Tampa,
not to mention physically beat down on offense. Carolina laid an egg in
Tampa, and the Bucs' scrambled it, talk about smothered and covered, do
you think Mr. Smith is a little sore this week? Panthers must rebound
in a hurry as the Saints come marching in, with Reggie and Drew and
maybe even Shockey on their high octane offense. Panthers have to get
back on track now to not lose a step in the division race, which is all
ready looking like a classic.
Falcons- (4-2) Just beat da' Bears on a
last second field goal, everyone is now paying attention to Matty-ice-
and the Falcons. Atlanta gets some rest this weekend with their bye,
before playing in a big game in Philly on Oct. 26. The Falcons are
showing that they are nobody's Vick-tim this year.
Buccaneers- (4-2) Took all the wind out
of the Panthers (and maybe a couple ribs); in a big home win 27-3. Ego
will get another lift as the offensive Seahawks (no quarterback, no
wide receivers, no good) come to town.
Saints- (3-3) Stomped Oakland 34-3 to
stay near the top of the division, for this weeks division match up in
Carolina who must shake off the rust after they were romped in Tampa.
Nawlins' offense is operating on a whole new level of proficiency in
every game so far this year.
NFC West
Seattle- (1-4) No Offense, no win......... The trip to Tampa looks to be painful.
Cardinals- (4-2) Grandpa Warner has
this offense on fire and the defense showed up in Dallas. The Cards are
flying through the early season, but you know grandpa needs the rest
from the bye this week before an Oct. 26 trip to Carolina.
49ers- (2-4) They were actually winning
the game, before loosing to the Eagles 40-26. Now they go to New York
to face the humbled Giants, might not be a good game for the Niners.
Rams- (1-4) No time to bask in the
glory of season’s first win, in new coach Haslett's first game. The
Cowboys are coming, but they might not have Tony Romo. No way the Rams
win this game, right?
